Fields of Joy Farm is a 55-acre emerging flower and wellness sanctuary in Park Rapids, Minnesota—created as a place where people can return to themselves through nature, creativity, and compassionate connection. What began as a quiet, persistent longing to be in deeper relationship with the land has grown into a living expression of healing, joy, and resilience.

Named after my beloved Morgan horse Joy, the farm is rooted in the belief that partnership with the natural world can change us—soften us, strengthen us, and remind us of who we truly are. Since becoming a quadriplegic in 1983, I have yearned for a way to experience nature more intimately: hands in the soil, sun warming my face, the grounded presence of horses, and the simple, sacred rhythm of seasons. For years, that felt out of reach. Fields of Joy Farm is my way of reclaiming that connection—and inviting others to reclaim theirs too.

Today, my husband Pete and I are building this dream piece by piece. We’re in process of completing Phase One: a fully wheelchair-accessible barndominium with four horse stalls and cozy living quarters. It’s our home base as we begin preparing the land for flourishing flower gardens, pollinator habitats, herb beds, retreats, workshops, and gathering spaces, equine-supported experiences, and quiet corners where healing can unfold naturally.

Fields of Joy Farm is more than a farm—it’s a heartfelt offering. A place where people of all abilities, ages, and life paths can slow down, breathe deeply, and feel the steady kindness of nature. Through flowers, horses, creativity, and soul-nourishing experiences, our vision is to cultivate a landscape where joy grows freely…and where everyone is welcome to find their own way back to it.
